"À la mode" is French for "we put ice cream on it," and it remains the single greatest act of dessert diplomacy. Warm vanilla Churro Bites plus a cold scoop is the format; here are the three builds worth knowing.
Build 1: The Double Vanilla
Vanilla bites, vanilla bean ice cream. Redundant? No — reinforced. Two expressions of the same bean at two temperatures. The warm churro melts the edge of the scoop into a sauce that coats the ridges. This is the minimalist's masterpiece. Optional: one crack of sea salt on top.
Build 2: The Caramel Corner
Vanilla bites, salted caramel ice cream, warm dulce drizzle. The vanilla dusting plays the calm middle voice between two caramels. This is the crowd favorite, the one you make when someone says "surprise me" and you want to win.
Build 3: The Berry Contrarian
Vanilla bites, strawberry ice cream, fresh berries, tiny drizzle of balsamic if you're feeling like a restaurant. The fruit acidity cuts the richness, and the vanilla bean dusting ties pastry to fruit. The lightest of the three — the summer-evening build.
Assembly rules
Bites first, hot from the fryer. Scoop second, directly on top, so the melt begins immediately. Eat fast — this dessert has a half-life of about four minutes, which conveniently is less time than it takes to make another round. One sleeve per bowl, four bowls per box. Plan accordingly.
